I’ll be vacationing next week in the Adirondacks, Montreal and Quebec City for 7 days, next week. I’m definitely psyched and can’t wait for it! It’s also going to be interesting since this is the first family vacation where I am responsible for planning the itinerary, so a lot of time has been spent googling and just checking what to do and see. And I hope I can survive without a GPS.
I own a Garmin Nuvi 200, one of the first few models of Garmin. It’s a pretty awesome GPS but the only downfall is that it does not include maps of Canada … so now I have to rely on regular old maps and MapQuest. What a world we live in … it’s like once you get a GPS, there is NO WAY you can ever go back to the contemporary method of maps and written directions. I’ve been spending the last couple hours finalizing my itinerary, printing out MapQuest directions and printing out screenshots of Google Maps … so I have some street view of the surrounding area. It’s quite sad that it’s come to this. I can’t use a street map .. so I am relying on screenshots of Google Maps.
Technology is evidently lead to our downfall. I should probably just get an iPhone to make my life much simpler. And if you’re wondering why I don’t upgrade my GPS, it costs $75 to load in maps from Canada and Puerto Rico. It’s pointless to waste that kind of money on a few days.
Well, wish me luck!
